Tuesday – August 13, 2013; Psalm 89:5-8

Let the heavens praise your wonders, O Lord, your faithfulness in the assembly of the holy ones.
For who in the skies can be compared to the Lord?
Who among the heavenly beings is like the Lord, a God feared in the council of the holy ones,
great and awesome above all that are around him?
O Lord God of hosts, who is as mighty as you, O Lord?

God is great, all powerful, omnipotent and awe-inspiring!!

What is most amazing though is how much God cares about us…like a parent!

But then, maybe we should not be so amazed by this…as parents ourselves, we know that our children mean everything to us!

We have sacrificed for them, cried with them, held them when sick, worried about them, and are helping them to grow up, and find their own way in life.

Some of us have also had to deal with troubling times as we have raised our children: problems at school, with friends, and maybe even with the law.  We have endured our children’s anger, and frustration, and have found forgiveness for them, as our love has never faltered, in spite of events that we might have found to be frustrating.

So to does God love us…like a perfect parent, watching over us, supporting us, sacrificing for us, offering us direction and love.  God provides us with counsel and comfort, both through the scriptures, and through others: preachers, teachers, professionals, and through our family and friends who are there to offer their wisdom and love to us.

Directly, and through others, God watches over us, guides us and cares for us, showing us what it means to be good parents and how to love our children without condition.

Let us Pray:

God, you are great and you are almighty, and we thank you reaching out to us with your never ending love!  Thank you for those who share that love with us, and help us to share this love with others, especially our children.  Please help us to use the gift of love that you have given to us to become the best parents we can be.
