Monday – September 23 , 2013; Proverbs 14:24-26

A truthful witness saves lives, but one who utters lies is a betrayer.
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence, and one’s children will have a refuge.

Face it, not all kids are crazy about going to church and Sunday School; and even if they do go they may not always pay attention, but instead be counting the minutes until it is all over.

Even for those kids who enjoy spending Sunday mornings at church, it is only for a few hours, and after that, they have the influences of pop-culture, TV, social media, friends, music, etc…to distract them from what they have learned in church…if they have learned anything.  However, they have one thing in their favor: us, their parents!

We have more influence on our kids than we realize, and are a big part of their lives…even if they pretend we don‘t.  Think of the impact your parents have had on your life (and no, I am not talking about hours of therapy!).

As single parents we can guide our children into a strong faith, by showing them what it means to have faith, by living our faith out loud on a daily basis!  We don’t need to be perfect, but hopefully by leading faithful lives, that makes the Gospel a reality in our homes, facing every trial, and celebrating every joy in the light of our faith in Christ we can give them a model to follow…and maybe they will one day listen and see the power that faith in God has in their lives as they grow into adults.

Let us Pray:

God, thank you for the opportunity to be single parents.  Please keep us strong in our faith, and help us to live our faith out loud every day, as a witness to the power of your love, alive and active in the world!  Help us to remember that we are living examples of the Gospel to our children…and to keep the hope that they will one day take up the path of faith for themselves.
