Better is a dry morsel with quiet than a house full of feasting with strife.

I disagree…I like a meal with a lot of liveliness — and noise!

I do not believe that mealtimes should be a quiet and solemn event, I think it should be a time for us to come together as a family, a time to break bread, and to strengthen our bonds as a family and as friends!

Sure there may be some strife at the family table (since when is a family without strife?), but meals should a time of discussion of sharing our day, our triumphs and our upsets, a time to support each other; a moment of fellowship and community in the midst of our busy lives, when it can feel as if we are always coming here or going there,

Life as single parents can sometimes feel especially hectic, giving us little opportunity to reconnect with our kids, but meal times give us the opportunity to do just that!  Whether it is a McDonald’s Happy Meal, turkey and all the trimmings, or even a dry morsel the most important part of sharing a meal together is simply being together.

As we come together to share a meal, we are nourished by more than just food, but by the love we share together, and by our hopes and dreams and those of our children.  When we gather in this way, Christ is truly in our midst as we are following his simple command to love one another; and where Christ is…the grace of God abounds and strengthens us for our mission to raise our children to be people of faith and compassion for the world.

Let us Pray

God, thank you for your love and the love we share with our families and friends.  Please help us to find nourishment and joy in the meals we share together, and in the break we get when we are able to get together in the midst of our busy lives and share the simple joy of a good meal, and the joy of living.

Amen
