Tuesday – October 1, 2013; Jeremiah 32:36-44

I will give them one heart and one way, that they may fear me for all time, for their own good and the good of their children after them. I will make an everlasting covenant with them, never to draw back from doing good to them; and I will put the fear of me in their hearts, so that they may not turn from me. I will rejoice in doing good to them, and I will plant them in this land in faithfulness, with all my heart and all my soul.

Although we are single parents, we do not raise our children alone, hopefully we will have family, friends and professionals, like teachers, counselors and pastors who can help us…and we have God!

God who will never abandon us, or leave us, and will always be with us to support us through the hard times, and celebrate the good times with us as well.  God reaches to us directly and also through the people around us, and is steadfast in all…and only asks us to offer our faith and praise in return, not a bad deal at all.

Our children are God’s gifts to us, just as we are gifts to our children, and the people who support us are also gifts of God’s love for us,

Together we share these gifts, in good times and bad, and keep each other going, even when our children do not feel like gifts, and when the days grow long, but time is too short to get everything done…even when we make mistakes…all the while it is God who watches over us, loves us and supports us with grace and hope that can see us through any trial.

In Christ we have received God’s promise of unending love, and the promise that we will never be alone, that God will always be with us, through the Spirit and the people in our lives through which God speaks.

No, although we are single parents, we do not raise our children alone, but with God’s presence, with faith, and with the support of each other.

Let us Pray:

God, thank you that we are never truly alone.  Help us to feel your presence with us when your love does feel out of reach, and life feels lonely and difficult.  Help us to see your presence in the lives of our children, and in the support of each other.
