Friday October 11, 2013; Psalm 111

Praise the Lord!
I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.
Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.
He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.
He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.
He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.
The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.
They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.
He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;  all those who practice it have a good understanding.

His praise endures forever.

Sometimes it is good for us to just take some time out, and show our gratitude for all that God has done for us!!!

There are times when we get so caught up in our own lives, and so busy with all we have to do as single parents, workers, family members, etc., that we forget to take time out to show some gratitude for all that God has given us: our children, the people who support us, the joys we all share together, and for life itself…not to mention the freely given love and Grace that God shows us in our lives.

Life is good, and there are many reasons for rejoicing; however, there are times when life seems too heavy and we feel separated from any feelings of gratitude!!!

If we find ourselves feeling as if there is little joy or reason to rejoice in our lives, it is good to make ourselves stop for a moment, take a deep breath, and look up at the sky (clear or cloudy), or into the eyes of our children, across a lake or just off to the horizon…and remind ourselves of all we have to be grateful for, all of the gifts we have been given by God.

Another way we can be reminded of God’s power in our lives is to make regular use of meditation (even if just for a moment) and prayer, as a way of reconnecting to God, and we can also refresh our faith by sharing our gratitude and praise with others as we gather for worship, fellowship and to simply support each other as we make our way through life as a single parent!

If we stop to think about it, we see that there are many reasons to praise God, many reasons to be grateful that God cares about us, just as we care for our children, without condition!

Just as we never stop loving our children (even if we do not always love their behavior), God never ceases to love us, forgive us and support us throughout our lives, no matter what we do…even if we forget to be grateful at times.

Let Us Pray

Dear God, thank you for loving us without condition.  Despite our often busy lives, and sometimes feeling as if life is not proceeding as we would like, help us always to remember to be grateful for all the gifts you have given us.  Thank you those who we love and who we love in return; let us never fail to value their support and care.  And thank you for our children, who can challenge us at times, but also bring us great joy, please help us to share our gratitude with them, as we travel through life together.

Amen
